Graduates from this programme are sought after by employers in the Design Industry as they have achieved an outstanding practical knowledge and skillset in their design education. They have benefitted from a studio-based programme that nurtures a culture of investigation and creativity to address a problem area through application of practical Design research and data evaluation, technical detailing, traditional model making and rapid-prototyping. Learners also develop a wide range of transferable skills, such as collaboration, professional practice, presentation and communication. The programme blends creative problem solving design skills with business and an entrepreneurial spirit. This ensures our graduates emerge with a pragmatic approach to Design. Learners complete a semester-long Design Placement or engage in an ERASMUS Exchange with one of our international study partners abroad. Learners engage and develop through individual and group project work, helping to foster the skills required for a dynamic new product development team and further develop their graduate attributes and their employability skills. Collaboration with Design Industry across all years of this programme allows learners to experience the design process in action. Graduates of this programme play a vital role in Design development in Ireland and internationally, and graduates from the Bachelor of Arts in Design and Product Design ´ó·¢ÌåÓý(dafa)Öйú¹Ù·½ÍøÕ¾@ from SETU Carlow gain associate membership in the IDI, Institute of Designers of Ireland, the professional representative body for Design on the island of Ireland.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Professional Social Care Practice

Graduates from social care programmes are highly sought after by employers in the Social Care sector in Ireland. Social Care graduates of the SETU Carlow graduate with academic excellence, employment knowledge and practice proficiencies which are required within the evolving social care sector in Ireland. Our graduates are equipped to achieve the highest personal and professional standards. Students also benefit from 800 hours supervised professional practice placements where they benefit from experiential and problem based learning within multiple agencies within the sphere of Social Care practice. Embedded into the programme are the Universitys’ graduate attributes which empower our social care graduates to become reflective, integrous, creative and confident social care workers. Given the practical nature of the programmes and the links to placement agencies across all years of the programme, working closely with our placement agencies means we have identified the skills, knowledge and competencies that employers need and want and the programme content is highly relevant to current themes and developments in the changing landscape of the social care sector.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Education and Care

This honours degree in Early Childhood Education and Care enables the learner to study a diverse range of subjects in order to gain a deep understanding of babies and children from birth to six years of age. The importance of play and interactions in supporting learning is emphasised throughout. Learners develop a knowledge and understanding of Aistear, the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Siolta, the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education, essential for professional work in this area of practice. Graduates of this programme have the knowledge, competencies and skills to work directly with, or on behalf of, babies and young children in a range of early childhood settings, particularly in the ECCE ‘free’ pre-school years. All modules strive to give learners opportunities to develop the seven SETU Carlow graduate attributes.  Engagement in Supervised Professional Practice enables the learners to develop these attributes in employment situations. The Supervised Professional Practice opportunities provide the learners with invaluable professional new work opportunities that often bring about job opportunities soon after graduating. Employment opportunities can include roles as room leaders, managers and leaders in early childhood settings such as: pre-schools; crèches; special needs services; family support centres and community services. Opportunities may include leadership roles in county childhood care committees, specialists with Better Start, inspectors with the Department of Education and Skills. Graduates have also found employment in international and other schools overseas.

Bachelor of Law LLB

During the LLB programme graduates study up to 15 law subjects over three years which provides them with a sound understanding of how the law fits together and relates to other disciplines such as politics, economics, history, criminology and philosophy. Graduates should have a broad range of competencies sought by employers, such as research skills, independent and critical thinking, problem solving, factual and legal analysis, and a high standard of written and oral communication. Graduates should also be proficient in working both independently and as a member of a team – key attributes sought by employers. SETU Carlow’s LLB is recognised as a qualifying degree by both of the professional bodies for lawyers: King’s Inns and The Law Society of Ireland therefore Law graduates can proceed into the legal profession to qualify as a barrister or solicitor. The LLB is also relevant for other careers, such as legal executive, compliance officer, human resources, the Gardaí, and the public service. Some 80% of law graduates from SETU Carlow pursue postgraduate study or secure employment in a relevant profession within six months of graduation.
