Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Art CW038

Graduates from this programme are qualified to pursue careers as professional artists, art critics, curators, community arts facilitators, artist collectives, arts administrators, event planners, gallery owners, art technicians and illustrators. They also are qualified to pursue postgraduate study to become Art Teachers, Art Therapists and Art Lecturers. They benefit from hands on experience of crafting work for exhibition as well as working as part of a team to produce an exhibition catalogue, curate and market an exhibition event and engage with bodies of knowledge and communities outside of their discipline. Students are given opportunities to develop their graduate attributes and their employability skills throughout the programme, through interaction with colleagues as part of teams and through individual projects which incorporate researching topics and presenting the outcomes to the wider group. A unique aspect of our course is a module in Community Based Learning which gives graduates a real world and hands on opportunity to produce socially engaged artworks with local communities. The skills gained on this module in particular significantly improve their employability prospects within the region.  Graduates of this programme play a vital role in developing creative solutions to inspire and bring together communities from a diverse range of demographics and cultures.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Visual Communications and Design CW088

Visual communications and Design creates and fosters a studio based environment, where students are immersed in a work based environment through their time in the course. Industry standard and commercial design projects create graduates that are work ready and commercially focused. Graduates leave the course ready to enter the design industry as independent, creative designers capable of creating solutions to various design problems across multiple sectors.

Having advanced software, technical, and design process skills creates learners who possess a wide selection of adaptable creative and critical skills that allows them to gain employment in multiple areas of the design landscape. Graduates from Visual Communications and Design gain employment in the areas of graphic designs, web design, advertising, desktop publishing, tv and media design.

BSc (Hons) in Sustainable Farm Management and Agribusiness - CW078

Graduates from this programme have achieved a unique balance of field, classroom and lab-based education that develops a deep understanding of the agri-food industry. Over the four years of the degree programme, graduates are exposed to agribusinesses and lead agri-researchers allowing them to gain first-hand knowledge of what it takes to run a sustainable agribusiness. Modules in animal, crop and soil science give the graduates the training required to advise farmers in a professional capacity. While the professional work placement module allows the student to gain first-hand experience of how a farm business and agri-industry operate. The skills developed over the four years of the degree help create a well-rounded individual that will contribute to the success of Ireland’s agri-food industry.

As well as the necessary technical skills, there is a strong emphasis on the application of knowledge and skills through the programme modules, cross-modular assessments and an applied research project. Students graduating from this programme can avail of a number of exemptions from some of the accountancy bodies. Thus, the graduates have the attributes to take up professional roles in Ireland or beyond and have significant employment potential.
